Here is a very rare 1973 Gibson Les Paul Custom Black Beauty Original Fretless Wonder Guitar for your consideration.  This auction starts at 99 cents with no reserve, so some lucky bidder will be able to acquire a guitar of a lifetime for the best going price. The low serial number indicates it was made around 1970, but Gibson was going through some changes in that era right after it was acquired by Norlin. The pot dates it to 1973 when the guitar was completed and shipped. There were only around 800 of these made during these years, and very few survive in the original condition. It does have the pancake body. A little heavier, but the sustain makes it all worth it. She weighs in at just under 10.5 pounds and is truly a pearl of great value.

 
This magnificent guitar has the original frets which gave it the nickname of Fretless Wonder. The frets are low and wide which allows a very low action and show minimal wear considering the age of the guitar. It plays beautifully but could use a bit of a dressing. These frets are not for everybody, as they require a light technique which can take some time to get used to, but they allow lightning-fast movement up and down the neck. Please consider this before bidding. Most of these historic gems sell for upwards of $10,000 or more and have been re-fretted with larger frets. (I used to prefer larger frets.)
 
The original Waverly tuners work great, but one is slightly bent. I never tried to straighten it. It has the original light-weight aluminum stop tail piece. I found another original bridge from someone in Germany, and replaced it, because the original seemed to be sagging. The original is included, along with the original saddles. I added some old nylon saddles to the treble strings. The pickup covers are not original. I added them when I first got the guitar. I only had a 15-watt soldering iron, so I was unable to get a pretty solder job. I meant to re-do it but forgot about.
 
The original patent sticker T-top pickups sound better than anything that I have ever played. I could not believe my ears when I first heard them. I do not think that I can ever be convinced that anything can sound better. The clarity and sustain is amazing. The pots and caps are clean and versatile. The spectacular original design allows exceptional versatility throughout the spectrum at all volume settings. It is no wonder why this wonderful guitar has such a legendary reputation. 
 
The original chain saw case is in very good condition. It is clean and fully functional.
